Lee & Ko served as counsel to Yonsei University Health System (“YUHS”) on the negotiation and execution of a contract with Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation (“Toshiba”) for the adoption of Toshiba’s heavy ion therapy system at YUHS. YUHS will be the first hospital in Korea to introduce the heavy ion therapy system, and the 11th in the world. Heavy ion therapy is known as the most advanced cancer treatment in the world that is currently available to patients. Cancer patients will be able to receive state-of-the-art heavy ion therapy at YUHS as early as 2022, once all the required licenses and authorizations (including from the Korea Food & Drug Administration) are obtained.
