[The Economist] Securities industry emphasizes internal control: "control is an investment, not a cost"
The Economist published an article highlighting a statement made by Ms. Hyunjoo Oh of Lee & Ko during a panel discussion at the seminar hosted by the Financial Investment Association and the Capital Markets Research Institute.  At the 5th Seminar on Strengthening Global Competitiveness in the Financial Investment Industry recently held on June 8th, Ms. Oh participated in the panel discussion on the internal control measures and performance-based compensation.  Ms. Oh stated, "While I agree with the idea of disclosing individual executive remuneration, we need to be cautious about disclosing the remuneration of general executives and employees who do not have management influence." She added, "We need to carefully consider whether we should disclose the individual’s title and paid how much was paid as remuneration just because the individual performed well."

On June 4, 2023, the Seoul Economic Daily published an interview with Dajoo Jung, an attorney at Lee & Ko. In his interview, Mr. Jung stated, “While serving as a judge for more than a decade, I learned that guaranteeing the right of defense is as important as weighing the gravity of the offence.” He further noted, “Based on my experience and expertise accumulated in court, I would like to establish myself as a criminal lawyer who always listens to clients’ opinion.”

[Law Times] Jongsoo Yoon, Attorney at Lee & Ko, Exploring the Sustainable Adventure of a Lawyer Free from Prejudice
On June 4, 2023, an interview with Jongsoo Yoon, an attorney at Lee & Ko, was reported in the Law Times. In his interview, Mr. Yoon explained that while serving as a judge, he wrote a dissertation regarding the freedom of browsing and its constitutional value by chance, which led to his relationship with a non-profit organization called Creative Commons. He then added that through these activities outside the court, he naturally now acquired expertise in high-tech info-communications, personal information and communication.

[Money Today] Lee & Ko hires former Korea Fair Trade Commission Consumer Policy Division Director Ju Eun Shim
Money Today reported 21-year Korea Fair Trade Commission veteran and former Consumer Policy Division Director, Attorney Ju Eun Shim, will be joining Lee & Ko’s Antitrust & Competition Team. Ms. Shim will provide consultations on matters including general antitrust law issues, responding to Korea Fair Trade Commission investigations, and antitrust litigation, among others.

On May 31, 2023, a comment from Lee & Ko’s attorney and executive managing director Sang Gon Kim was reported in Newsis. At the ‘Promotion Conference for On-Site Settlement of Interlocking System for Cost of Goods Delivered’ hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) on May 31, Mr. Kim noted that he has “witnessed the enterprises’ keen interest and demand regarding the introduction of the interlocking system after hosting two road shows”. In addition, he announced Lee & Ko’s preparation such as the formation of a task force team composed of experts in the Subcontracting Act.

[Korea Economic Daily] [Exclusive] Lee & Ko, Shin & Kim and Bae, Kim & Lee benefiting from increased demand due to Serious Accidents Punishment Act
On May 21, 2023, The Korea Economic Daily reported that large law firms, including Lee & Ko, are experiencing a surge in demand for their services due to the significant growth of the legal market related to the Serious Accidents Punishment Act (the “Act”) over the past two years. According to a survey conducted from January 2021 to April this year on the number of serious accident-related cases and advices by the nation’s top ten law firms, it revealed that “Lee & Ko and Shin & Kim had handled over 200 cases each” and further noted that “Lee & Ko is currently providing legal advice on related cases, such as Sampyo Industry’s quarry collapse in Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, which serves as the first case subject to the new Act”.

[Hankyung Business] Lee & Ko Attorney Eunwoo Vera Lee named ‘Top 250 Women in IP’ by Managing IP
On April 27th, 2023, Hankyung Business reported that Attorney Eunwoo Vera Lee of Lee & Ko won distinguished recognition. She was named this year’s ‘Top 250 Women in IP’ by MIP, a legal publication dedicated to intellectual property. Hankyung Business noted that she “has worked as a member of Lee & Ko since 2004,” and “has played an active role in intellectual property matters across the board, covering patent, trademark, copyright, domain name, unfair competition, licensing and employee invention.”

On April 24, 2023, Lee & Ko’s Employment and Labor Practice Group was featured in Korea Economy, a prominent newspaper. [The Naeil News] Big law firms working on the antitrust field
News of Lee & Ko’s Antitrust & Competition Criminal Defense Team was reported in the Naeil News. Naeil News reported that “Lee & Ko held two successful briefing sessions on the ‘Connected Payment System for Goods and Services Provided’ with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. In addition, Lee & Ko’s bench features prominent lawyers Hyongkun Kim, who both served as Senior Prosecutor of the Anti-corruption Investigation Division at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, and Su Jin Jung, who were in charge of the Antitrust Tribunal at the Seoul High Court, were recently recruited.”

[Money Today] Taeho Lee, former 2nd Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, joined Lee&Ko.
On April 4, 2023, Money Today reported Taeho Lee, former 2nd vice minister of Foreign Affairs and former Korea’s Ambassador to Geneva, joined the law firm Lee&Ko as a senior advisor. Drawing on 40 years of high-profile economic, commerce, and diplomatic experiences, Mr. Lee will begin to serve as a senior advisor at the International Trade Practice Group at Lee&Ko.
