Myoung Chul Kwak is a partner in the Banking and Finance Group. His practice focuses on a wide range of banking and finance matters, including representing various domestic and foreign banks in acquisition and leveraged finance transactions.
Some of his most notable recent transactions include advising the arrangers of KRW 985 billion financing for Carlyle's leveraged acquisition of ADT Korea, USD 243 million multi-tier refinancing and acquisition of Ssangyong Corporation and its offshore subsidiary sponsored by Morgan Stanley Private Equity Holdings AB, USD equivalent of KRW 75 billion financing for the construction of the Incheon Container Terminal, and USD 1.05 billion financing for Hynix Semiconductor Inc., the world's second largest memory chip maker.
Prior to joining Lee & Ko in 2001, Mr. Kwak worked as an accountant for Samil PricewaterhouseCoopers and Daejoo Accounting Corporation. He received his LL.M. degree from New York University School of Law in 2008 and a B.A. in Business Administration from Yonsei University in 1994. He is a member of the Korea Bar Association and the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

- Advised arrangers of KRW 1 trillion financing for the acquisition of Kabam, Inc. by Netmarble Games Corporation
- Advised KEB Hana Bank,, NH Investment & Securities Co., Ltd. and other financial institution on a KRW791,000,000,000 financing for acquisition by Hahn & Company of Ssangyong Cement Industrial Co., Ltd
- Advised Korea Exchange Bank, NH Investment & Securities Co., Ltd., Shinhan Bank, Woori Bank and other financial institution on a KRW1,941,000,000,000 financing for acquisition by Hahn & Company and Hankook Tire Co., Ltd. of 50.50% shares of HVCC by Visteon Corporation.
- Advised lenders on KRW1,345,000,000,000 financing for Carlyle Group’s acquisition of 100% of TFSS (a holding company which owns 100% in ADT Caps Co., Ltd., the second largest company in Korea’s security industry), Capstec Co., Ltd. and ADT Security Co., Ltd. This deal was one of the largest private equity transactions in Asia in 2014.
- Advised lenders in relation to KRW 818,000,000,000 debt facility for MBK Partners acquisition of 100% shares of ING Life Insurance.
- Advised lenders in relation to KRW 537,328,960,000 debt facility for MBK Partners acquisition of a major stake in NEPA, a large outdoor apparel company in Korea.
- Advised lenders in relation to KRW1,220,000,000,000 debt facility for MBK Partners’ acquisition of shares of Coway, a South Korean water purifier manufacturer. MBK Partners’ acquisition of 30.9% shares of Coway from Woongjin Holdings was one of the largest private equity deals in Asia in 2012.
