Lee & Ko provided integral assistance to Samsung Medical Center (“SMC”) on its negotiation and execution of a 5-party joint research agreement with 4 Singaporean educational and medical institutions, including the National Cancer Centre of Singapore, under which the parties will collaborate on developing the world’s first clinically reliable and robust patient-specific diagnostic and predictive platform to improve the treatment of liver cancer. This multi-institutional project came about after Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (“A*STAR”) proposed a collaboration that utilized SMC’s AVATAR system, an innovative refractory cancer translational research program based on the AVATAR Mouse® and AVATASCAN® systems. Under the agreement, the parties will establish a joint lab in Singapore that incorporates SMC’s AVATAR system, and develop drugs and a cutting-edge diagnostic and predictive platform for the effective treatment of liver cancer through joint research and the exchange of medical/research professionals.
