Lee & Ko represented a foreign chemical company in customs authority’s Korea-US FTA country of origin verification investigation. Through extensive review and preparation of the submission materials, and analysis and application of the FTA origin principles, Lee & Ko was able to successfully defend duty assessment or minimize the amount of duty. With the recent increase in FTA verification investigations and heightened scrutiny by the customs authority, chemical products are targets because verifying their origin are extremely difficult. Nevertheless, through Lee & Ko’s assistance, the client was able to sufficiently satisfy the origin requirements, and this case spotlighted Lee & Ko customs team’s knowledge and ability in FTA investigations within the chemical products industry.
