Lee & Ko successfully obtained merger clearances in various jurisdictions around the around for Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., in the sale of its Hard Disk Drive (HDD) business to Seagate Technology (valued at USD$687.5 million + 9.6% shares of Seagate). This transaction was viewed as highly problematic due to the oligopolistic nature of the HDD market. Despite such challenges, Lee & Ko was able to complete the transaction successfully on behalf of Samsung. Lee & Ko’s outstanding expertise was also highlighted by the fact that the Western Digital – Hitachi HDD merger, which was filed around the same time, was subject to an order mandating structural remedies by the KFTC.
