Seminar on 'Efficient Response in Industrial Relations for the Second Half of 2024'
On October 11th 2024, Lee & Ko hosted a seminar session titled ‘Efficient Response in Industrial Relations for the Second Half of 2024’ for clients. This live seminar was organized to offer insightful analyses of the latest issues and legal principles emerging from recent cases in industrial relations, and was simultaneously broadcasted online as a webinar.

The session kicked off with a compelling presentation by Mr. Deok-ho Kim, a member of the Economic, Social, and Labor Council. His presentation focused on “Corporate Management and ESG,” during which he shed light on the government’s key labor reform initiatives related to working hours and wages and ongoing discussions within the council on the relevant topics.

In the second session, Mr. Dong Hyuk Kang (Lee & Ko’s attorney) examined the recent trend in jurisprudence in Serious Accident Punishment Act (SAPA) violation cases.  In his presentation titled “Analysis of SAPA Rulings and Forecasting Jurisprudence”, Mr. Kang clarified some of the critical areas that may attract heightened scrutiny from the judicial bodies as well as law enforcement while outlining the key obligations that businesses must stay informed about and actively monitor.

In the final session, Ms. So Young Kim (Lee & Ko’s attorney) explored the latest Issues in workplace harassment and sexual Harassment. She presented recent case studies, emphasizing the importance of understanding follow-up procedures and the precautions businesses need to take in order to address these issues effectively.

Industrial Relations Response Seminar in the Second Half of 2023
On 25 August 2023, Lee & Ko held the "Industrial Relations Response Seminar in the Second Half of 2023" at the International Conference Room of the Bank Hall.

This hybrid seminar/webinar featured prominent keynote speakers equipped with both experience and expertise – namely, Prof. Hwa Jin Park (a visiting professor at Wonkwang University and former Deputy Minister at Ministry of Employment and Labor/Director of Industrial Safety Bureau) and Mr. Young Jin Kim (currently a senior partner at Lee & Ko and a former judicial researcher at Korean Supreme Court and presiding judge) – to analyze the case studies and implications of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act (SAPA) and recent Supreme Court's rulings on labor cases.

Prof. Park presented in the first session of the seminar, during which he covered the legislative structure of the SAPA and discussed the investigation practice against SAPA offenses (under the heading of “Case Studies and Discussion Points for SAPA” and reviewed key topics that companies are advised to pay attention to or prepare for based on the takeaways from actual SAPA cases.

Thereafter, Mr. Young Jin Kim presented in the second session during which he introduced the Supreme Court’s major rulings over the past two (2) years (under the heading of “Recent Supreme Court's Position and Future Prospects on Labor Cases") and the future prospect on key topics in the employment landscape. These include: the ripeness of wage claims, annual leave entitlements, wage peak system, the effect of personnel orders, the “imminent business necessity” requirement (for statutory layoff), unfavorable changes in employment rules, the relationship between individual employment contracts and employment rules, doctrine of “reasonable expectation” in labor relations, dispatch employment practice, industrial actions and compensation.

'The government's roadmap for serious accidents reduction, how should companies prepare?' webinar held.
On February 2nd (Thu), Lee & Ko jointly held a webinar titled "The Government's Roadmap for Serious Accidents Reduction, how should companies prepare?" in collaboration with the Korea Industrial Safety Association.

In the first year of the implementation of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, we had time to present countermeasures on how companies should prepare for the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the government's roadmap for serious accidents reduction.
