Lee & Ko was honored at the Asia Women in Business Law Awards 2017 event with the award for having the ‘Best National Firm Mentoring Programme’. The Asia Women in Business Law Awards events are held annually under the auspices of the prestigious legal publisher, Euromoney. The purpose of the awards programme is to celebrate and promote the advancement of women in the legal practice, and annual winners of awards for the relevant nations and practice areas in Asia are selected pursuant to in-depth evaluations. The Asia Women in Business Law Awards 2017 was held at the JW Marriott Hong Kong, on November 9, 2017.
Lee & Ko’s winning of the ‘Best National Firm Mentoring Programme’ award was based on various criteria, but was largely credited to the firm’s highly effective “1:1 Mentoring System” in which experienced female attorneys in the firm act as mentors for new female attorneys. Whenever a new female junior associate enters the firm, a senior female attorney in the firm is assigned to mentor the new associate and help guide the new associate’s efforts to acquire necessary skills and become an accomplished attorney in the future. Such mentoring activities include providing female attorneys with helpful practice tips and advice, as well as opportunities to communicate freely about law firm culture, personal concerns, family issues and any other unique challenges that the new associate may face in successfully adapting to their work at the firm. In addition to assigning mentors, Lee & Ko supports the mentoring programme by sponsoring relevant meetings, workshops and other gatherings for female attorneys.
