As a member of Lee & Ko's Intellectual Property Practice Group, Ahhyun Nam advises and assists clients with a broad range of IP related matters, including IP prosecutions, IP transactions and various types of IP litigation/dispute resolution matters, as well as trade secrets and franchise licensing issues. Prior to joining Lee & Ko in 2017, Mr. Nam worked as a Patent Attorney at Kim & Chang, where his work included handling patent prosecutions before the Korean Intellectual Property Office, as well as acting for clients before the Intellectual Property Tribunal and Patent Court in applying for and obtaining invalidations, cancellations and scope confirmation decisions. In addition to the foregoing, Mr. Nam's work has included advising clients on a broad range of other IP matters such as distribution agreements, trade secret protection, IP portfolio management, IP licensing, trademarks and designs.
With a strong background in engineering, Mr. Nam has developed a high level of technical expertise regarding IP in the fields of wireless communications, electronics, and information technology and has been involved as a legal advisor in many significant cases in those areas. Examples of the cases he has handled include, among others, a worldwide patent dispute relating to 3G wireless communication technology, a criminal defense case relating to allegations of industrial technology leaking (involving a subsidiary of a NASDAQ-listed global panel inspection company as defendant), and a criminal defense case relating to OLED display technology.Mr. Nam has also handled various US patent litigations where Korean companies are involved, including patent litigation before the US District Court for the Northern District of California relating to PMIC chip technology, patent litigations before the US District Court for the District of Delaware and the US District Court for the District of Nevada relating to touch screen sensor technology and an ITC Section 337 investigation relating to solar cell technology.
Mr. Nam is a member of the Korean Patent Bar Association and the Korean and Seoul Bar Association.
