Hong Seon Kim's practice focuses primarily on intellectual property, including patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright, design, unfair competition, noncompetition and employee raiding, compensation for inventions related to work duties, licensing, border measures (customs office/ Korea Trade Commission), game industry, Product Liability in a wide variety of technical fields.

Most notably, he represented successfully a global printer and cartridge manufacturing company against a number of online retailers infringing the company's patent for ink-cartridge, and he also successfully represented a global inlay manufacturing company against a number of inlay companies infringing the company's patent for bonding a wire conductor. Besides, he represented many clients in patent infringement cases, involving linear vibration actuator, ship fin-stabilizer system, device for lining a ball-valve, wood pellet burner, multi slide type portable phone, and concrete placing leveler, etc. Moreover, he represented successfully a number of clients in a famous trademark infringement cases, and he represented successfully worldwide game companies (battle-royal shooting game/ MMORPG game) and major publishers in relation to copyright/unfair competition enforcement cases.

Mr. Kim's strengths as an IP litigator are notable in cases related to trade secret misappropriation cases. He represented a global steel company in a cross-border litigation concerning patent infringement in the U.S. and trade secret misappropriation in Korea and Japan. He also represented successfully a worldwide heavy industry company in a trade secret misappropriation case involving the company's Packaged Power Station technology. Besides, he represented many clients in trade secret misappropriation cases, in civil and criminal proceedings, involving photosensitizer packaging for LCD/TFT panels, solar cell material, semiconductor inspection equipment, EPI wafer of LED, digital broadcasting equipment, industrial robot, software program, rubber oil seal, precision steel chopper, waste incinerator, etc. Moreover, he assisted a number of clients in establishing guidelines for trade secret protection.

In addition, Mr. Kim advised and counseled a number of clients, including a global non-ferrous metal company, worldwide electric company, global bio company, and the largest liquor producer in Korea, in compensation matters in connection with inventions ("work-for-hire" inventions) invented by employees and represented successfully a number of multinational corporations against claims for compensation brought against by former employees.

Mr. Kim holds a B.S. in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering (Cum Laude) from Seoul National University and an LL.M. from University of Southern California School of Law. He is admitted to the Korean Bar, the Korean Patent Bar, and the Illinois State Bar
