Byungsoo Yu joined Lee & Ko as Senior Consultant in 2024. He is a member of our Corporate Group and focuses on advisory work relating to corporate restructuring. Mr. Yu began his banking career in 1991 when he joined the Corporate Banking Department III of the Korea Development Bank (KDB). Since then, he has worked on corporate finance, trust planning, and venture financing at the Cheonan Branch, Trust Department, Technology Development Finance Team, Gangnam Branch, and the Corporate Banking Department II of KDB. From 1998 when the Korean economy faced severe economic crisis and many companies became insolvent, Mr. Yu has successfully carried out corporate restructuring and sale of bad assets of insolvent companies that were under the composition and receivership of the Special Management Department of KDB.

From 2017 to 2021, Mr. Yu served as the Head of Management Normalization T/F, Corporate Restructuring Department I, Maritime Finance Center, and the Busan-Gyeongnam Regional Headquarters of KDB. He led the corporate restructuring of insolvent companies and contributed to the revitalization of related industries and capital markets through the sale of NPL (Non-Performing Loan).

In 2021, he was appointed as the CEO and Treasurer, President of Pocheon IPP Co. Ltd., an independent power plant that was principally financed by KDB’s project finance loan. During his three year tenure, Mr. Yu secured the sustainability of the power plant by successfully selling the ownership stakes in the two largest shareholders and winning a reassessment claim against the National Tax Service of Korea.
