Lee & Ko acted as legal advisors to Macquarie Investment Management Korea (“MIMK”) in March 2014 in connection with carrying out the successful acquisition, by MIMK’s real estate fund and special asset fund, of the Goyang Bus Terminal complex – a complex comprising both public infrastructure and commercial properties. The dual public and private/commercial nature of the terminal complex necessitated the development and use of an innovative dual-investment acquisition structure. Goyang Terminal is a complex comprised of a shopping center, passenger terminal and movie theater and accordingly the transaction was particularly complicated due to the large scale nature of the real estate involved, and further adding to the complication, the Terminal was held as part of the bankruptcy estate of Jae-il, Jae-il 2 and Ace Savings Banks. The successful completion of this intricate transaction demonstrated Lee & Ko’s strong legal abilities in the field of real estate.
