On May 14, 2020, eDaily published an interview with Un Ho Kim, attorney from Lee & Ko, on the Supreme Court decision affirming the unlawfulness of the production of BTS photobooks by unauthorized entities.
In 2018, Big Hit Entertainment, BTS’ management company, filed a lawsuit against businesses that made and sold the photobooks without authorization. The appeal decision was rendered in 2019, and in March of this year, the Supreme Court issued its final decision accepting the arguments that BTS presented to protect BTS’ rights.
As eDaily reported, “Mr. Un Ho Kim, lead counsel for Big Hit in the litigation, emphasized the substantial investments that Bit Hit has put in toward the worldwide success of BTS in securing the court’s recognition of the rights that an entertainment agency holds with respect to the musicians that it represents.” As further reported, “Mr. Kim stated that as the Korean entertainment industry continues to expand its presence worldwide, the rights of the artists and their agencies need efficient protection. As the courts have ruled in favor of the entertainment agency in the BTS case, he further stated, the protection of such rights should continue to be strengthened in the coming future.”
