On November 15, 2019, the 27th North Korea Policy Forum was held under the theme of “Inter-Korean Growth through Startup Cooperation,” according to Maeil Business Newspaper.
Hosted by Maekyung Media Group, the Korean National Assembly’s Forum for Peace and Prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, and the Korea Development Bank, this year’s Forum explored the recent atmosphere of North Korea and strategies for business cooperation between South and North Korea in the startup and science and technology sectors.
One of the speakers of the Forum, Mr. Hyung Sub Lim (Partner and Secretary General of Lee & Ko’s North Korea Advisory Group) stated that “South and North Korea can effectively develop startup businesses by utilizing the experience gained from the Kaesong Industrial Complex project and using infrastructures and technology education centers as business spaces for their startup cooperation.” Mr. Lim also added that “with respect to the startup cooperation between the South and the North, the Unjong High-Tech Development Zone in Pyongyang, established mainly by the efforts made by the National Academy of Sciences of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, will be in the spotlight.”
