Byungkuk Seo is a partner in the Lee & Ko’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, where he advises both domestic and multinational clients on a wide range of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, portfolio management, litigation, licensing, and strategic counseling. He brings to his practice a unique blend of legal insight and engineering expertise, having previously worked as a systems engineer at SK Communications where he developed search engine infrastructure.

Since passing the Korean Patent Bar in 2010, Mr. Seo has represented leading Korean electronics companies in patent prosecution and trial proceedings, with particular emphasis on outbound matters. He has overseen more than 1,000 patent applications across major jurisdictions such as the United States, Europe, Japan, and China, and remains deeply involved in every stage of patent life cycle and portfolio development.

He is especially recognized for his deep expertise in standard-essential patent (SEP) matters relating to telecommunications standards, including 3GPP, LTE/LTE-A, and NR standards. He has advised clients on standard matching analysis, licensing, valuation, and dispute resolution involving SEPs. His experience extends to providing legal and technical support for unfair trade investigations before trade commissions, including patent infringement claims in ITC-style proceedings.

Mr. Seo also has extensive experience across a wide array of technology sectors, including fulfillment-based e-commerce platforms, control and power distribution systems for secondary batteries, mobile modem chipsets, and fintech infrastructures. His strong technical background allows him to quickly grasp complex inventions and craft robust protection and enforcement strategies tailored to each client's business objectives.

Since joining Lee & Ko in 2018, he has been at the forefront of helping Korean and global clients navigate the evolving landscape of global IP law, offering strategic, cross-border solutions grounded in both legal precision and technical understanding. He is admitted to practice before the Korean Patent Bar and the District of Columbia Bar (U.S.).
